Santa Gertrudis Breeders aim to produce top quality Classified Cattle for sale to commercial cattle breeders. The Classification System maintains a Standard of Excellence in the purebred herd. A Field Director (Classifier) visits each year from Australia to inspect progeny and brand those bulls and heifers suitable for stud breeding.

Santa Gertrudis (Bos Indicus) bulls as terminal sires produce beef cattle with hybrid vigour, high yielding, quality carcass weights, heat tolerance, resistance to ticks, pink eye and bloat plus calving ease.

Semen is available for purchase through the Santa Gertrudis Breeders Association for upgrading or for use in dairy herds.

The 2016 AGM was held at Napier this year. There was a farm visit to John Broad's classification at Raupunga. Our thanks to John and his staff for hosting us, and to Ruth for the lovely hearty lunch provided on the day.

The visit was followed by the AGM and dinner at Napier. Thank you to those who attended, it was great to catch up.

James Martin has resigned from the council after many years of service, as he has retired and is no longer breeding cattle. His steady hand, attention to detail and good ideas will be missed by all the breeders and council. THANK YOU JAMES.
